PUEBLO, Colo. (KKTV) - Heads up, drivers! A major interchange in Pueblo is getting a makeover - and it could impact your commute! The Colorado Department of Transportation announced that construction of the new I-25 and US Highway 50B interchange would be starting Monday. The project involves a significant overhaul of existing structures at the heavily traveled intersection and is expected to take more than a year. "The new I-25/US 50B interchange is a priority for CDOT because the current interchange poses safety concerns with many trucks on the interstate hitting the low clearance bridge or getting stuck on the interchange itself. The new diverging diamond interchange will help improve traffic flow on this important freight corridor and increase safety and mobility for all road users," said CDOT Region 2 Transportation Director Shane Ferguson. The project spans mile points 99 to 101 on I-25 and mile points 315-316 on Highway 50 and will consist of building five new bridge structures, retaining walls and noise walls, roadway and ramp reconstruction, embankment, safety improvements, drainage and erosion control along the five miles of impacted roadway. "When complete, the new interchange will be located just north of the existing location and operate as a diverging diamond interchange (DDI) to increase safety and mobility for drivers," CDOT said. Starting Monday, drivers can expect construction on weekdays between 7 a.m.-7 p.m., which could result in lane and shoulder closures. Construction activity will take place adjacent to the roadway to minimize the impacts on both roadways. "Delays and detours are expected throughout the duration of the project. The project is expected to be completed in early summer 2027," CDOT said.
