PA 17th Senatorial Distirct Race Preview: Cappalletti Vs Harris State Sen. Amanda Cappalletti took over the seat from the embattled Daylin Leach in 2021. Will she keep it, or will Greg Harris take over?

— State Sen. Amanda Cappalletti is looking to keep Pennsylvania's 17th Senatorial District blue in the upcoming general election on Nov. 5. She is being challenged by Republican Greg Harris.

Cappalletti, a Montgomery County native, served as an East Norriton Supervisor before being elected to the state Senate in 2020.

In that race, she defeated embattled former State Sen. Daylin Leach, who at the time was pursuing a seat in the United States House of Representatives but abandoned the campaign.

In the senate, Cappaletti serves on various committees, including the Judiciary Committee, Health & Human Services Committee, Agriculture & Rural Affairs Committee, and Community, Economic & Recreational Development.

She holds a B.A. from Chestnut Hill College and a J.D. from Temple University.

Harris, a Navy veteran, was born in California and moved to Philadelphia as a child. He graduated from Girard College in Philadelphia, then earned a Bachelor of Arts in Urban Studies from Temple University

During his time in the Navy, he as an Operations Specialist and later a Combat Information Center Watch Supervisor. He was deployed to the Mediterranean Sea and the Persian Gulf in support of the Global War on Terror and UN Sanctions on Iraq.

According to the Delaware Valley Journal, Harris wants to help bring businesses to the region by supporting tax cuts.

He currently serves as treasurer of Norristown's West End, and is active in several Veteran's Service Organizations, including the American Legion and the Veterans of Foreign Wars.

Harris earned his candidacy for the 17th Senatorial District through a write-in campaign during the 2024 primary election.
