Packers block field goal to ruin Caleb Williams' heroics
The Chicago Bears snatched a defeat from the jaws of victory once again as the Green Bay Packers got out of Week 11 with a dramatic win, blocking a last-second field goal . The talking point on Monday morning will be the Bears letting more than a half-minute run off the clock without trying to get closer than 46 yards.
The Packers-Bears Week 11 tilt was a back-and-forth affair that saw Green Bay jump out early but Chicago reclaimed the lead by halftime. They built on that lead in the third quarter until Jordan Love and company scored to go up 20-19 in the fourth. Rookie quarterback Caleb Williams heroically led the Bears on a final drive and got them in field goal position, but with 38 seconds left on the clock and 46 yards away from the goal posts, Bears head coach Matt Eberflus opted to let the clock run down to three seconds and attempt the kick instead of get closer for kicker Cairo Santos.
Santos sent a line drive over the line and Packers defensive lineman Karl Brooks got a hand on the ball to get the block and win the game. This debacle will surely make the calls for the Bears to fire head coach Matt Eberflus only grow louder.
The NFC North is the best division in the NFL this season
Whether it is by record or by the eye test, there is no doubt that the NFC North is the best division in football this season.
This game drops the Bears to 4-6 on the season while moving the Packers to 7-3. That mark allows Green Bay to keep pace with the Detroit Lions and Minnesota Vikings. Both the Lions and Vikings won on Sunday moving to 9-1 and 8-2, respectively.
At this point in the season, with just six weeks remaining, it would take a major collapse for the Lions, Vikings, and Packers to miss the playoffs. Sending three teams from a division to the postseason is impressive, Sending four would be historic because while it is mathematically possible, it has never happened since the NFL/AFL merger in 1970.
After losing to the Washington Commanders on a last-second Hail Mary in Week 8 and now suffering this heartbreaking loss, the Bears are likely out of the postseason as the Packers and Commanders own the final NFC Wild Card spots currently.
