ROCHESTER, Minn. (KTTC) – A community-led organization in Rochester is hosting a grieving event Monday afternoon as a call for peace for the first anniversary since the Hamas attack in Israel sparking a war between the two.

Rochester Solidarity with Palestine Committee is hosting its Procession of Loss and Mourning to create a space for those experiencing loss on all sides of the spectrum.

The group invites people to wear black and participate in a silent march between 1st and 3rd Avenue in downtown Rochester.

Deah Kinion, a group member, said everyone is welcome at the event and she's open to having conversations with anyone who may have opposing views on the group.

"No one right now is talking about peace and mediation and non-violent solutions, and I guess it has to start at home, and why not here in Rochester," Kinion said.

Kinion went on to say that she's surprised the war has lasted this long. She thinks that Islamic Phobia and racism are some key issues as to why the war continues.

The event starts at noon on Monday.

According to CNN, hundreds of Palestinians are currently fleeing northern Gaza after Israel's new grounds operations are underway from seeing signs of Hamas rebuilding.
