Passenger in Mercedes dies in collision in Greensboro

A Saturday night crash claimed the life of a 21-year-old man, Greensboro police said in a news release said.This story has been updated to correct an error. See correction at bottom of story. 2 p.m. July 1, 2024.

Officers were summoned to the 3800 block of North Elm Street around 8:17 p.m. after reports of a car crash.

According to the release, Dylan Maurice Gallaga, 20, of Manns Harbor, was driving north in a Mercedes-Benz coupe on North Elm Street near I-840 and collided with a Hyundai Azera sedan, driven by Melissa Dee Harvey, 46, who was traveling north on Elm Street, just south of Lake Jeanette Road.

The Mercedes also carried two passengers, the car's owner, Vincenzo Antonio Brevetti, 21, of Southern Shores, who died in the crash, and Jacob Ryan Benvenuto, 20, of Plainville, Conn., the release said.

Investigators with Greensboro police say the initial collision caused the Hyundai to run off the road to the right, hit a tree, and overturn.

The Mercedes collided with another tree after it ran off the road to the right, the release said.

Gallaga, Benvenuto, Harvey suffered non-life-threatening injuries and were transported to a local hospital by EMS, the release said.

Greensboro police are continuing to investigate the incident. No information was immediately available about the cause of the incident.
