Patrick Mahomes ' dad ranted to cops that his arrest for driving while intoxicated in February would cost his son the Super Bowl , new footage has revealed.

Mahomes Sr, 54, was arrested by the Tyler Police Department Feb. 3, eight days before his son won the Super Bowl for the Kansas City Chiefs in Las Vegas .

Now, footage obtained by TMZ shows for former Major League Baseball player getting angry towards police after they put him in handcuffs.

An officer had seen his white Genesis traveling too slowly as he went west in the 1100 block of W. Gentry. Cops ran his registration - which had expired in September 2022 and he had an open can of beer in the car alongside him when police pulled him over.

'Are y'all serious?' Mahomes Sr. can be heard saying: 'I'm supposed to be going to the Super Bowl to watch my son play football, and this is what we're doing?

'Can I say one thing? My son is getting ready to play in the f***ing Super Bowl, OK? Just listen to me. I am not drunk. I promise you. I've had some drinks. But he can't have this right now. Listen, this can't happen.

'Dude. This is crazy. My son is getting ready to play in the f***ing Super Bowl and I'm doing interviews - five or six a day. And then, now, this s***'s going to be on the news which is going to f*** with him, and it's probably going to f*** him up.'

'And he probably won't win the Super Bowl. But that's fine. If that's what y'all want to do, that's good.'

Until that point, Mahomes Sr had been cooperative with the police.

He was later taken to the Smith County Jail and held on a $10,000 bond. He did make it to the Super Bowl the weekend after the incident and saw his son win his third ring, as the Chiefs beat the 49ers 25-22 in overtime.

Mahomes Sr. later received a five-year probation sentence over the incident.

The Chiefs quarterback was quizzed about the incident in the build up to the game against San Francisco 49ers but stayed tight-lipped.

'I can't go into it too much, but I mean he's doing good for whatever the situation is,' Mahomes said.

'It's a family matter, so I'll just keep it to the family. That's all I'm going to say at this point.'

Mahomes Sr was arrested again in Texas back in June for driving on a suspended license.

At the beginning of August, Mahomes Sr celebrated six months of sobriety with an Instagram post.

I would like to Thank my God wife family and friends for 6 months on the sunny side of the road,' the elder Mahomes wrote on Instagram. 'I know it's been hard getting to know sober Pat but it's well worth it.'

His caption also included a message for his wife, Patrick II's stepmother: 'Trisha Mahomes thanks for all you do.'
