FBI looking for suspected 'serial bank robber' in Anchorage

Oct. 17—A suspect in a series of credit union robberies in Anchorage since last month has walked into three different branches, demanded money and escaped without arrest, federal authorities say.

A man described as a "serial bank robber" stole money from a Credit Union 1 branch in Midtown as well as two Global Credit Union branches in South Anchorage, according to the Federal Bureau of Investigation.

The Credit Union 1 on Eureka Street was robbed on Sept. 23, and the suspect fled on a bicycle, according to the agency. He is believed to have robbed a Global Credit Union branch on Hartzell Road on Oct. 7 before leaving the scene in a stolen car, the FBI said. On Wednesday, the same man is believed to have robbed another Global Credit Union on Abbott Road and then left the area on foot, they said.

Each time, the suspect walked into the branch, handed a personal note to a teller demanding money, and said he had a weapon, FBI spokeswoman Chloe Martin said Thursday. Martin said she couldn't say how much money was taken or whether a weapon was seen during the robberies.
