New England Patriots safety Jabrill Peppers was arrested on early Saturday morning on multiple charges, Braintree police announced on Monday.

Police responded to an altercation at a home that led to Peppers, 29, being arrested at the scene. He is expected to be charged with assault and battery, assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, strangulation, and possession of a Class B drug that police believed to be cocaine.

Peppers is expected to be arraigned in Quincy District Court on Monday.

The Patriots, who made Peppers inactive for their Week 5 game against the Miami Dolphins , released a statement on the issue on Monday morning.

"We are aware of an incident involving Jabrill Peppers over the weekend in which the police are currently investigating. We will have no further comment at this time," the statement read.

A first-round selection in the 2017 NFL Draft, Peppers joined the Patriots as a free agent in 2022. Since then, he has appeared in 36 games for the organization and as a starting safety registered three interceptions as well as two fumble recoveries and a sack. Earlier this offseason, he signed a three-year, $25 million contract extension. He was later voted one of six initial team captains.
