Pedestrian dies after being hit by car on I-40 in Burke County Friday

A Valdese man died after he was hit by a car on Interstate 40 Friday afternoon.
Cody Vance Dehaven, 42, of Valdese, walked onto I-40 from the shoulder around 2:30 p.m. near Exit 113 eastbound (Malcolm Boulevard) when he was hit by a 2009 Mercedes Benz C300, according to a release from the North Carolina State Highway Patrol.
Dehaven was critically injured and taken by medical helicopter to an area hospital, where he later died from his injuries, the release said.
The driver of the Mercedes Benz was not injured.
Troopers do not suspect impairment or speed were contributing factors, the release said. The road was closed for about an hour during the investigation.
No charges will be filed, the release said.
