Sports Penguins' Beat Reporter Blasts Tristan Jarry: "Unprofessional Performance"

Pittsburgh Penguins goaltender Tristan Jarry came under fire after his performance in the team's 6-5 win over the Buffalo Sabres on Wednesday.

Josh Yohe, a beat writer for The Athletic covering the Penguins, took to social media to criticize Jarry's play, calling it "unprofessional."

For context, Jarry started in net for Pittsburgh but allowed three goals on just five shots in the first period before being pulled from the game against the Sabres.

It was Jarry's third start of the season following a season-opening loss to the Rangers and a victory over Montreal. He completed those two matchups playing the full 60 minutes but he couldn't reach 12 minutes played on Wednesday.

"Yet another unprofessional performance from Jarry," Yohe wrote on X . "I don't see any reason for him to play again anytime soon.

"That's 12 goals allowed in less than 7 periods, and a number of them were terrible."

Penguins prospect Joel Blomqvist came in to replace Jarry and managed to secure the win, finishing with 26 saves.

Jarry's performance only raised more concerns after a shaky start to the season, with the netminder having allowed 12 goals in less than seven periods across his three starts this campaign.

Penguins head coach Mike Sullivan, however, has continued to defend Jarry, stating the importance of having two reliable goaltenders throughout the season in a two-man rotation.

"We tell Tristan to control what he can," Sullivan said ahead of Wednesday's matchup, via Wes Crosby of NHL.com . "He's a good goalie. He's a quality goalie.

"I think you guys are overthinking this as you always do. We need two goalies that can help us win. We have a lot of games coming up.

"'Jars' is going to play. We're going to use two goalies through this first little while out of necessity just because of the condensed schedule."

Jarry signed a five-year, $26.9 million contract with the Penguins in July. He has appeared in 260 regular-season games for the team boasting a 2.72 goals-against average and a .911 save percentage. He also has a career-wide record of 137-86-25 defining his net.
