The Week 8 Hollis Wright Player of the Week from the Birmingham area had a dominating performance on the football field and in the balloting.

Helena quarterback Nate Ferguson earned 63 percent of the 31,859 votes cast in the weekly survey after notching 232 total yards in a Class 6A, Region 3 runaway win over Pelham. The 5-foot-11, 150-pound junior picked up 20,117 votes in the poll. He completed 16-of-20 passes for 190 yards and a pair of touchdowns and ran for two more scores in the 42-2 win over the Panthers.

Wenonah running back Makhi Fowler got 16 percent of the total votes in the poll after leading the Dragons to a 28-20 Class 5A, Region 5 win over Carver. Fowler ran for 211 yards and 3 TDs for Wenonah.

Fultondale running back Jeremiah Jackson was third in the poll with 8 percent of the total. Jackson had 15 carries for 172 yards and 4 touchdowns as the Wildcats whipped Haleyville 40-21 on the road.
