Penn State adds commitment from legacy recruit Lavar Arrington II
Penn State has added a legacy recruit in the Class of 2025. Lavar Arrington II will follow in his father's footsteps and play for the Nittany Lions. The 6-foot-3, 205-pound linebacker is from Covina, Calif. The son of Penn State great LaVar Arrington is a three-star. He is the No. 611 player overall in the On3 Industry Ranking and the No. 70 linebacker.
Arrington II picked head coach James Franklin's program over , among others. Penn State became the 10th school to offer him back in November of 2023. He took nearly 10 visits in the recruiting process and thus did not automatically decide to one day wear the same uniform colors his dad did in college.
"Having him helps me with making a decision," Arrington II told VolQuest when asked about his dad's impact on the recruiting process . "He not only went through what I went through but he is smart and has a football mind too, so it is not like he is pressuring me to go to Penn State or anything like that. This is strictly my decision."
However, as BWI recruiting insider Ryan Snyder noted in a piece predicting who could commit to the Nittany Lions next back in mid-June, Arrington II is not like some other legacy prospects.
"Publically, there isn't a lot of information out there when it comes to where LaVar Arrington II is leaning, but this is another recruitment that Penn State sources believe the staff should be able to win. Tennessee is interesting because he did visit Knoxville twice in the past month, including an official visit last weekend. UCLA is in the mix, too, and I have heard some talk that he does have interest in potentially playing somewhere other than State College," Snyder writes.
"With that said, his father is also still very involved with Penn State's football program. This isn't like some other legacy prospects who have those ties but their parents don't have a strong connection to the current staff. It's very much the opposite in this case. The three-star prospect has also been on campus more than I realized over the years, and I think that familiarity makes this a much more realistic addition than most California prospects. Time will tell, but we know Tom Allen wants to add another linebacker to the class."
