Penn State student opens mental health facility in Lancaster
Alex Kovavoric, a Penn State student and owner of the One Life Project organization, started the nonprofit to help others battling mental health.
The mission comes after he struggled with his mental health, so he decided to create an outlet to allow others to feel heard.
He and a group of friends started a cyberbullying task force that allowed people with mental health struggles to share their feelings on Facebook in hopes of receiving support.
The Facebook page grew and started reaching people across the world, but Kovavoric wanted to make a bigger impact.
The global organization now has more than 4,000 volunteers and aims to support teens, young adults and college students.
Although the group's headquarters is in New York City, Kovavoric saw a need for mental health support in south-central Pennsylvania. It inspired him to expand the organization.
Lancaster is now home to One Life Project's second location with a goal to save more lives.
The address is 210 W. Grant St., which is in the Warehouse 210 coworking space.
