Pennsylvania county extends voting hours due to software problems

CAMBRIA COUNTY, Penn. (Gray News) - A county in the battleground state of Pennsylvania has extended voting hours after experiencing a software malfunction.

A Pennsylvania state judge ordered polls to remain open for two extra hours in Cambria County on Tuesday.

The Pennslyvania Department of State announced on the social media platform X that polling hours in Cambria County have been extended from 8 p.m. to 10 p.m. Voters who arrive to cast their ballot after 8 p.m. will be given a provisional ballot.

Earlier in the day, the county experienced a software malfunction that affected ballot-scanning machines.

According to county officials, the malfunction caused long lines at polling locations and voter confusion. Some voters reportedly left without casting their ballots.

However, officials said no one had been turned away from the polls and ensured all ballots will be counted.

The Pennsylvania Department of State reported voters continued voting by paper ballot as the county worked to resolve the technical issue.

Pennsylvania is one of the seven swing states that are expected to decide the presidential election, barring major surprises.
