PEORIA, Ill. (WMBD) — Peoria County Election Commission is reassuring voters about ballot security ahead of the General Election.

The election commission hosted an informational presentation and tour for media Wednesday.

While no cameras were allowed during the presentation and tour, the main objective of the demonstration was to show just how secure voters' ballots are.

Mail-in ballots were also discussed, and Elizabeth Gannon, the executive director of the election commission, shares the process of ballots going through the mail.

"Every time we put a vote by mail ballot, pack it together," she said. "It is a unique identifier is created for that voter that links to our voter registration system. It also links specifically to the election that we are in. And so that allows us to track that packet as it moves through the voting process."

She also explains the difference between an official ballot and a non-official ballot.

"It's important to know that anybody can send out an application for a vote by mail ballot," she said. "Those can come from candidates, parties, nonprofits. They don't just come from the election commission. So if you are receiving multiple applications and you know you've already put one in, just disregard that."

What was also shared were details on the "I Voted" sticker design contest for next year.

The contest commemorates the Peoria County Election Commission's 10th anniversary, and the county's bicentennial.

Designs are being accepted until noon on Nov. 1st. You can submit your design here .
