Peoria man sentenced to 17 years in prison in connection with February deadly shooting

PEORIA, Ill. (WMBD) — A Peoria man pleaded guilty Monday in connection with a deadly shooting in early 2023.

Torreon Carey, 26, pleaded in Peoria County Circuit Court to one count of aggravated battery and received a 17-year, 7-month prison term. He will get credit for eight months already spent in custody.

However, that's a far cry from what he was facing had he not entered into a plea agreement with Peoria County prosecutors, who dropped a count of first-degree murder as part of the plea agreement. A lesser weapons charge was also dropped.

He was charged in connection with the Feb. 11, 2023, shooting of Davion Parker.

The 18-year-old Parker died five days after he was found in the 3400 block of West Oakcrest Drive with a gunshot wound to his head. Parker's minivan had been in the Lexington Hills apartment complex at around 7 p.m. which was when he was shot, according to the Peoria Police Department.

Another man, Donte D. Agnew, 22, was charged last Novembe r with murder. His case is still pending.
