JOHNSTOWN – Authorities have identified the man whose burned body was found Wednesday along state Route 56 near the Westmoreland County line, and a person of interest is in police custody, authorities said.
Barry Senior Jr., 54, of Adams Township, died from blood loss due to multiple stab wounds, Cambria County Coroner Jeff Lees said Thursday during a news conference at his Johnstown office.
The man also was strangled and his body dumped near a Haws Pike turnaround before being set on fire. It's being ruled a homicide, Lees said.
Senior's 2022 BMW M3 was found abandoned in another county. One person of interest is in police custody. No charges have been filed.
"One person was located with that vehicle and is in custody on unrelated matters," District Attorney Gregory Neugebauer said.
Senior was last seen by his parents around 8:30 p.m. Tuesday. He left the house after communicating with someone online, Neugebauer said.
"This is an opportunity to again remind people to be very careful who you meet on the internet and how you interact with those people," he said.
A passing motorist called 911 after spotting the fire at 2:30 a.m. Wednesday.
Lower Yoder firefighters put out the fire and discovered the body.
"This was a very violent death," Neugebauer said.
Senior was identified by his father, a retired dentist, and mother, a Forest Hills schoolteacher.
West Hills Regional police, Adams Township police, state police, the District Attorney's Office and the coroner are investigating.
