PHOTOS: RI Democrats on Election Night

The Rhode Island Democratic Party met on election night at the Graduate Hotel in downtown Providence.

It was a winning night for Rhode Island Democrats, but topline, they ran against a group of little-known and poorly funded Republican candidates.

Rhode Island will suffer a major blow in influence. The United States Senate is poised to flip from blue to red, and thus, U.S. Senator Jack Reed will lose influence and his chairmanship of the powerful Armed Services Committee.

U.S. Senator Sheldon Whitehouse won reelection over Republican Patricia Morgan. Whitehouse captured 59.5% to Morgan's 40.2%.

Seth Magaziner won reelection over Republican Steven Corvi 58% to 41.8%. Corvi spent less than $5,000, according to the most recent Federal Election Commission report. Magaziner represents the second congressional district but lives in the first district. He is the only member of Congress not to live in the district he represents.

Democrat Gabe Amo won his first full term in Congress. He defeated Republican Allen Waters 62.5% to 32.5%. It is the strongest margin of victory of the three Democratic congressional Democrats. Amo represents the first congressional district.

The night was bittersweet for Democrats as the early results from around the country proved to be prophetic for the fate of Vice President Kamala Harris. She lost the presidential election to Donald Trump. In Rhode Island, Trump outperformed his efforts against both Hillary Clinton and President Joe Biden.

With 448 of 453 polling places reporting (98%), Harris leads Trump 55.2% to 42.2%.

The Harris win is just by 13% in solidly blue Rhode Island. Biden beat Trump in Rhode Island by 21%, and Clinton won by 16%.
