Seven states vote to protect abortion rights

GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KJCT) - Seven states voted to cement reproductive rights into their state constitutions. Measures to protect abortion access in Arizona, Colorado, New York, Maryland, Missouri, Montana and Nevada are expected to pass.: The ballot issue to create a constitutional right for abortion passed. The item will be added to the state constitution as Colorado Amendment 79. Similar to New York, abortion is currently legal. This amendment will maintain current abortion access.: The amendment will expand access to abortion. Abortion is currently banned with no exceptions for rape or incest.: The amendment is expected to overturn the state's ban on abortions 15 weeks into pregnancy.: The state had dueling measures on the ballot. One that would invalidate the state's 12-week abortion ban. This would make exceptions for sexual assault, incest and medical emergencies. The other measure would uphold the restriction. The measure that receives more votes will take effect. Abortion measures in Florida and South Dakota failed.: The six-week ban will remain in place.South Dakota: The state will keep its law banning abortions with no exceptions for rape and incest.
