Pittsburgh Steelers’ next opponent benches starting QB in blowout loss

A.Kim27 min ago
The Pittsburgh Steelers' next opponent, the Las Vegas Raiders, made a quarterback change during their Week 5 34-18 loss against the Denver Broncos. Starter Gardner Minshew was benched for backup Aidan O'Connell just five games after the Raiders signed him to a two-year, $25 million contract to become their starting quarterback.

Minshew finished 12 of 17 with 137 yards with one touchdown and two interceptions. In relief, O'Connell was 0 of 20 for 94 yards with another interception. After the game, head coach Antonio Pierce stated there had not yet been a decision made on who would start at quarterback for the Raiders against the Steelers next week.

"I don't know," he said. "I don't have the answer to that one yet."

The Raiders sit at 2-3 with wins over the Baltimore Ravens and Cleveland Browns. Given Minshew's struggles, Pierce could try to give his team a spark and turn to O'Connell for that, but the Steelers defense will hope to smother the Raiders, no matter who the quarterback is across from them, and get a much-needed win, to stop their skid.
