HOLLAND, MI – People interested in the emerging practice of red light therapy have something to look forward to in the Holland area.

Light Lounge, a new wellness spa, hosted a grand opening celebration on Oct. 4, at 12662 Riley St. in Holland Township.

Owners Nick and Lindsey Thompson since July of last year have been working to bring the concept to Holland. Theirs is the first Light Lounge franchise for Michigan, joining locations in Colorado, Utah, Texas, Arizona and Missouri.

The Holland location currently offers red light therapy via four LED beds. Nick Thompson told MLive red light therapy comes with "massive" anti-inflammatory benefits.

"It's for people who experience pain – people who have chronic, low-, mid- high-grade inflammation," he said, adding the treatment also promotes better sleep and blood flow.

People can schedule their first session for free at lightlounge.life or via the Light Lounge app. Walk-ins are welcome as well.

There is a variety of pricing options, including the premium membership, which gives people full 24-hour access to the beds.

Regular hours are 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., Monday through Friday, and 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday for non-members.

The clinic will phase in more services such as a cold plunge tub and an infrared sauna at a later date, Thompson said. Light Lounge also has partnered with a medical director working on licensing so the clinic can offer hyperbaric oxygen therapy and IV drip therapy.

With a background in finance but a lifelong love for health and fitness, Thompson said he's excited to share his passion with the Holland community.

"There's such an appetite out there for people who are trying to figure out how - in the modern world, with high calorie food and modern jobs where they're not moving - they can be healthy and optimize themselves," he said.

"Early stuff like this normally starts in the larger cities, so to be able to bring this here, I think it's going to work, and I think a lot of people are going to be able to benefit from it."
