Williamsport, Pa. — UPMC Williamsport is one of 21 Pennsylvania hospitals that was recognized for patient safety during the Hospital and Healthsytem Association of Pennsylvania's (HAP) 2024 Patient Safety, Quality, and Equity Symposium. The recognition is based on preventing three kinds of common hospital-borne infections.

The 2024 honorees were selected based on their performance during 2023.

HAP identifies top-performing hospitals using the CDC's National Healthcare Safety Network data. To be recognized, hospitals must perform better than the mean standardized infection ratio for the following common infections: central line-associated bloodstream infections, catheter-associated urinary tract infections, and occurrences of C-diff.

"Being recognized as top performers is a testament to our care teams exemplifying our core values ensuring every patient receives the highest-quality care in the safest environment," said Patti Jackson-Gehris, president, UPMC in North Central Pa. and UPMC Williamsport. "This recognition highlights their impressive achievements and commitment to providing an exceptional care experience to every patient. Their hard work truly makes a difference."

HAP announced the 2024 Excellence in Patient Safety Recognition recipients during its Patient Safety, Quality, and Equity Symposium in Harrisburg on Tuesday, Oct. 1. At the event, UPMC Williamsport was also recognized with a citation from State Rep. Jamie Flick for the accomplishment.

"Delivering high-quality and safe care to their communities is hospitals' top priority," said Nicole Stallings, president and CEO, HAP. "HAP is proud to recognize the Pennsylvania hospital teams that have achieved outstanding results from their commitment to continuous quality and safety improvement."
