Pittsburgh Steelers' two new players could make NFL history

A.Kim31 min ago
After joining the Pittsburgh Steelers , wide receiver Mike Williams and outside linebacker Preston Smith have a chance to set a new mark in NFL history. Williams comes over from the New York Jets, and Smith from the Green Bay Packers.

The Packers' bye week is Week 10, while the Jets' bye week is Week 12. What does that mean? With the Steelers' bye week falling in Week 9, that likely means that Smith and Williams will be the rare players not to have a bye week.

It will be 18 straight weeks of NFL football for both players. However, that has rarely, if ever, happened in NFL history. In fact, according to Alex Kozora of Steelers Depot, Smith and Williams would be the first players to play 18 straight games since 1931. Both players must stay healthy to keep that consistent, but Smith was not backing away from the challenge.

"Yeah, man. Eighteen straight weeks of NFL football. It's a blessing," Smith said. The NFL has hinted that they want to go to an 18-game schedule at some point, but that could come with not just one but two bye weeks at that point. Either way, Smith and Williams could exceed that mark if the Steelers make the playoffs, which would put them in exclusive company.
