Efforts to help people impacted by Hurricane Helene are continuing in Pittsburgh. On Tuesday, a team from the Oaklander Hotel met at the Brother's Brother Foundation to help put together and load hygiene kits for hurricane victims.Photos: Hurricane Helene leaves parts of North Carolina under water Volunteers said that even though it's been some time since the storm, there is still a big need for supplies. "The needs are tremendous," Ozzy Samad said. "If you look at the Carolinas, Georgia, Florida and adjacent states, we're continuing to work in those areas. And lately, we've sent out generators that are going to be needed as the weather gets colder and so on." The group is always in need of financial donations for supplies and volunteers to put the materials together.for more information. Michael Grimm, a New York Republican who resigned from Congress following a tax fraud conviction, is paralyzed from the chest down after being thrown from a horse during a polo tournament, according to friends who are raising funds to pay for the ex-lawmaker's medical care. Grimm, 54, suffered the devastating injury in September and is now being treated at the Kessler Institute for Rehabilitation in New Jersey, where the late actor Christopher Reeve was treated after a similar equestrian accident in 1995, according to Vincent Ignizio, a friend of Grimm's who is a former New York City Council member. "It was a passion of his and he suffered a tragic accident at the end of September," said Ignizio, who has set up a GoFundMe account to pay for Grimm's medical care. An eagled-eyed husband and wife were sailing in Hawaii when they spotted mysterious objects in the distance. Camila and Ryan Sullivan found five scuba divers drifting at sea. They told their rescuers that they were on a diving excursion. When they surfaced, they realized that they drifted away and their dive boat was nowhere to be found. The couple tried to pull them to safety but the sea was too rough. They radioed the U.S. Coast Guard. Twenty minutes later, help finally arrived.
