Class A: Pittsford Mendon 4, New Hartford (III) 1 All season long, the Vikings were known for their defense— they gave up just one goal in their final three games prior to the state championship. On Sunday morning, it was their offense getting it done to power the Vikings to their first state title since 1988. It's the program's fourth championship all time. In the eleventh minute, Charlotte Engin fired in a shot from long-range to give the Vikings a 1-0 lead. In the final minute of the first half, Ella VanPutte scored a rebound goal to give Mendon a 2-0 margin at the break. Early in the second half, Engin scored her second of the day to give the Vikings a 3-0 lead. After New Hartford got on the scoreboard, Jaelyn Rodi added another goal. Ella VanPutte's shot hit the crossbar, which went to Rodi for the game's final goal. New Hartford had a handful of chances throughout the game, but Kate Crowley was strong in net to secure the title for the Vikings. Class C: Byron-Bergen 1, Stillwater (2) 0 (OT) Less than a minute into overtime, junior phenom Mia Gray gave the Bees their first state title in program history with a golden goal. Gray raced past the defense and calmly fired a low shot into the bottom left corner of the net for the game's only goal. It's the second golden goal in the last three games for Gray, who tallied the overtime winner against Frewsburg in the Far West Regionals. The University of Florida commit also had two goals and an assist in the team's state semifinal victory. Goalie Natalie Prinzi was stellar in net to secure the clean sheet, her second in the state final four. Byron-Bergen had never made a girls soccer state title game prior to this season. Now, they're coming home with a trophy.
