Week 13 Game Balls: Top performers from the OHSAA football regional semifinals

CLEVELAND, Ohio — Game balls go out to the following players for their Week 13 performances of the high school football season and the OHSAA regional semifinals.

  • Danny Alfieri, Kirtland: Alfieri rushed for four touchdowns, including three in the first quarter, to send the defending OHSAA Division VI state champions on their way to a 41-7 rout of Columbia. A senior, Alfieri rushed the football 12 times for 105 yards. John Silvestro added 98 yards and a score on seven carries.

    Spencer Barninger, Mentor: A senior linebacker, Barninger delivered big hits and finished with four solo tackles and five assists in Mentor's 31-0 shutout of Canton McKinley in the Division I regional semifinals. Barninger added a tackle for loss.

    Dylan Borla, Highland: A senior quarterback, Borla completed all 13 of his passes for 232 yards in a 38-14 win against Whitehouse Anthony Wayne, sending the undefeated Hornets into a rematch with Avon for the Division II, Region 6 crown. Borla threw two TD passes to Nick Dobkowski and Luke Berkmeyer after rushing for a second-quarter score. He gained 50 yards on six carries.

    Caden Clair, Mentor: His five solo tackles tied for the team lead in Mentor's shutout of Canton McKinley. The senior linebacker also forced two fumbles.

    Thomas Csanyi, St. Edward: The Eagles' senior quarterback completed 76 percent of his passes and threw for 198 yards with two TDs to Luke Hess (92 yards on nine receptions) and Joseph Saffold (89 yards on four receptions) in a 40-24 win against Perrysburg in Division I.

    Jackson Farley, Mentor: The Cardinals' senior running back gained 169 yards with one TD on 25 carries to complement the defense in a shutout of Canton McKinley.

    Brayton Feister, Archbishop Hoban: Feister rushed for a career-high 290 yards and five TDs on 26 carries, powering the Knights to a 48-13 win against Nordonia in Division II, Region 5.

    Nolan Good, Avon: The Eagles' senior quarterback rushed just six times for 102 yards and two TDs. He threw for 171 yards on 16-of-22 passing with an early score to Grant Barr, and Avon advanced to the Division II, Region 6 finals with a 41-10 win against Wadsworth.

    Roderick Love, Padua: Love scored four times and rushed the ball 31 times for 254 yards, serving as the catalyst to Padua's 42-28 upset of Benedictine in Division III, Region 10.

    Chris Maloney, Benedictine: A senior like Love for Padua, Maloney did his part in a duel at running back with 230 yards and three TDs on 22 carries.

    Walter Moses, Perry: The Pirates' returning All-Ohio quarterback and Toledo commit threw for 327 yards and five TDs on 17-of-21 passing to lead Perry's 45-21 victory against Streetsboro in Division IV, Region 13.

    C.J. Newell, Glenville: His interception in the end zone on Lake Catholic's opening drive set the stage for Glenville's 28-0 shutout of the top-seeded Cougars in Division IV, Region 13. Newell added a second-quarter TD run, finishing with 87 yards on 15 carries.

    Cooper Panteck, Gilmour Academy: The Lancers are the last area team in Division III, Region 9 after Panteck threw for 389 yards and four TDs on 17-of-25 passing in their 35-28 win against Cuyahoga Valley Christian Academy. Paneck found Lars Broberg for 140 yards and one score on four passes. Brody Lennon scored twice with 80 yards on four receptions.

    Aaron Scales, Glenville: Another junior playmaker in Glenville's secondary, Scales intercepted a deep pass in the second quarter near the 15-yard line and returned it to the house while racing well more than 85 yards as he cut around the field. Scales gave Glenville a 7-0 lead in its shutout of Lake Catholic, forcing five interceptions and six turnovers.

    Walsh Jesuit's offensive line: The Warriors rushed for 429 yards behind the effort of Kodey Kish, Colton Crosley, Matthew DeSciscio, Brayden Piersall and Luka Jeras in their 42-28 win against Austintown Fitch in the Division II, Region 5 semifinals. "We have the best O-line in the state, and I'll say that to anybody," said senior quarterback Keller Moten, who rushed for 125 yards with Lucas Weaver's 156 yards. "And I truly do believe that we have the best scheme in the state and the best O-line coach in the state. We take pride in it."
