Plan for Mike Williams in Pittsburgh Steelers' offense revealed

PITTSBURGH - On Wednesday, new Pittsburgh Steelers wide receiver Mike Williams revealed that he played with the Steelers' first team in his first practice and that the team has yet to fully determine his exact role starting this week and throughout the season.

However, offensive coordinator Arthur Smith shed some light on how the team plans to use Williams. For one, they want to utilize his superpower, his deep threat ability, and his know-how to go up and win 50/50 balls.

In addition to that, Smith believes that Williams brings tangible size and blocking ability to the run game. That all can crack open a different part of their offense that had yet to be utilized.

"Mike's a big receiver. He's made a lot of 50/50 catches," Smith said. "Big presence in the run game. We'll see where it goes. Hopefully, he's value added."

Williams said on Wednesday that the Steelers did not place him in one spot but had him move around the offense and learn what he could do.

"I was moving around everywhere. I'm trying to learn as much as possible. You never know what can happen, people move, things change. So, I'm just learning all the positions. I got some reps with Russ, also. So, keep building the rest of the week and see where we are on Sunday," Williams said.

The Steelers will likely still utilize Van Jefferson a lot on Sunday against the Commanders, but Williams should see some snaps and have an immediate impact for the team against a 7-2 team.
