On July 18, at around 11:20 a.m., officers responded to the sounds of gunshots near 23rd Street and Alabama Avenue, officials said. When they arrived at the scene, officers said they found three men and a 2-year-old girl, identified as Emily by her grandmother, suffering from gunshot wounds.
The two men, later identified as29-year-old Lamont Street of Capitol Heights, Maryland, and 50-year-old Jermaine Proctor of Southeast, D.C., lost their lives at the scene, officials said.
A third man and Emily were taken to an area hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, officials said. They were both treated and survived the shooting.
For the past several months, detectives have been looking through evidence to track down the group of people responsible for the shooting, officials said during the press conference. Detectives from D.C's homicide branch looked through and analyzed surveillance images, as well as spoke with residents to look for answers.
Investigators' findings determined that a group of people hopped out of a car and shot up the intersection of 22nd Street and Alabama Avenue, Southeast on the day of the shooting. Emily was a part of a daycare group that was caught in the crossfire.
Several months later, on the morning of Nov. 7, officers from the Capital Area Regional Fugitive Task Force located Green and charged him with first-degree murder while armed for his alleged role in the shooting.
Officials said during the press conference that Green was not the only man responsible for this shooting. Officers are continuing their investigation to find all the suspects involved, officials said.
Police ask anyone with information about the shooting to call them at 202-727-9099.
