Police find two bodies inside Lenexa home following multi-hour standoff
KANSAS CITY, Mo. — One man is in custody after police found two dead bodies inside his home following a multi-hour standoff Friday night in Lenexa, Kansas.
According to the Lenexa Police Department, at about 8:20 p.m., officers were dispatched to a home near Hallet Street and Mullen Road after sounds of gunfire were reported.

Police said as officers arrived at the scene, they heard multiple gunshots coming from near the home.
Lenexa police said officers spoke on the phone with the man suspected of firing the shots and learned that he was still inside the home. He then refused to come out peacefully, per the officer's request, leading the Lenexa Tactical Team and crisis negotiators to respond.
Crews barricaded operations as negotiators spoke on the phone with the man for nearly two hours before he hung up.
According to officers, at about 1:50 a.m., the tactical team entered the home to take the man into custody. However, when officers found the suspect, he appeared to have overdosed. He was then brought to a hospital.
After the man was taken into custody and to the hospital, officers found the bodies of a man and a woman who had been shot.
Police also learned that a neighbor's dog had been shot and killed at the same time they responded to the initial call.

The case is currently under investigation with Lenexa detectives and members of the Johnson County Crime Lab.
Police have not released any details regarding the condition of the male suspect.
