Police investigate death of 1-year-old

HIGH POINT — The High Point Police Department is investigating the shooting death of a toddler. On Sunday about 11:40 a.m., officers responded to the 1800 block of Abberton Way in response to a death investigation. A 1-year-old girl was found with a gunshot wound and pronounced dead at the scene by paramedics, police said late Tuesday afternoon. Detectives from the High Point Police Department's Special Victims Unit responded and will lead the investigation. Everyone involved in the shooting incident has been identified. There is no threat to the community, police say. Police said that no additional information will be released at this time. The 37-year-old man was waiting in line at a Virginia Beach 7-Eleven, staring into his strawberry-melon Big Gulp, when he saw the red dot appear on the side of the cup.
