Waco police have arrested a 19-year-old man in connection with a Monday night shooting that injured two people in East Waco.

Tyjuan Hicks was booked into McLennan County Jail on Tuesday on a second-degree felony charge of aggravated assault.

Officers responded to reports of gunfire just before 8 p.m. in the 800 block of Olive Street near East Waco Drive, according to Hicks' arrest affidavit. Upon arrival, they found a gunshot victim, who was transported to a local hospital, the affidavit says.

The affidavit only lists one gunshot victim, but Waco police spokesperson Cierra Shipley said there were two gunshot victims who are both expected to recover.

At the hospital, the victim identified Hicks as the shooter, according to the affidavit. Officers located Hicks as he was leaving his residence later that evening, and he agreed to an interview, the affidavit says.

"Hicks admitted to being with (the victim) prior to the shooting," officers wrote in the affidavit.

Witnesses reported seeing a man in a black jacket fleeing the scene, and officers noted Hicks was wearing a similar jacket during the interview, the affidavit says.

"Based on the facts, (officers) have reason to believe Tyjuan Hicks presented a firearm and discharged the deadly weapon whom a reasonable person would fear for their life causing serious bodily injury," officers wrote in the document.

Hicks remained in McLennan County Jail on Thursday evening with bail listed at $750,000.
