Powell Street BART station closed due to police activity

SAN FRANCISCO ( KRON ) — Powell Street BART station was closed Friday morning due to police activity, according to Bay Area Rapid Transit. The San Francisco Fire Department is on the scene for a "traumatic injury," according to a social media post from SFFD.

The adjoining Muni station is also closed, and the San Francisco Police Department is closing access points and lanes above ground, officials said.

Emergency crews are on the scene, according to the San Francisco Department of Emergency Management.

People are being advised to avoid the area of 5th and Market and to expect transit delays and consider alternate routes. Powell Street cable cars on the Hyde and Mason lines are also being impacted and will switch back southbound to northbound, according to the San Francisco Municipal Transit Authority.
