Powerball player wins $1 million in North Carolina. Where was the lucky ticket sold?
A Powerball ticket sold in North Carolina won $1 million but just missed the $197 million jackpot, lottery officials say.
The ticket matched five winning numbers but not the Powerball in the drawing Saturday, Sept. 21, the national Powerball site said.
The winning North Carolina ticket was purchased at a Jack B Quick convenience store in Granite Falls, about a 65-mile drive northwest from Charlotte, the North Carolina Education Lottery said in a news release.
Nobody won the grand prize, which rises to an estimated $208 million, with a cash value of $104.6 million, for the next drawing Monday, Sept. 23.
The winning numbers were 17, 19, 21, 37 and 45 with a Powerball of 14, the North Carolina Education Lottery said. The Power Play was 2.
A ticket sold in Florida also matched five numbers plus the Power Play to win $2 million.
More than 620,000 other Powerball tickets sold in the United States also won prizes ranging from $4 to $100,000, the lottery said.
The Powerball jackpot has gone unclaimed since Aug. 19, when a California player won the $44 million grand prize, lottery officials said.
What to know about Powerball
To score a jackpot in the Powerball , a player must match all five white balls and the red Powerball.
The odds of scoring the jackpot prize are 1 in 292,201,338.
Tickets can be bought on the day of the drawing, but sales times and price vary by state.
Drawings are broadcast Saturdays, Mondays and Wednesdays at 10:59 p.m. ET and can be streamed online .
Powerball is played in 45 states, Washington, D.C., Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands.
