Reader's View: Stauber has much to answer for

J.Ramirez33 min ago

U.S. Rep. Pete Stauber won't participate in many debates, won't do many interviews, and won't answer a lot of questions. I did see him on TV extolling the virtues of a divisive mining issue in a report that seemed instigated to con us into supporting him. And there he was, seeking credit for the Blatnik Bridge construction project even though he voted against the 2021 federal infrastructure law that provided its funding.

Sneaky indeed.

I can't recall Stauber discussing his positions on women's health; Ukraine; the Jan. 6, 2021, Capitol insurrection; the rule of law; Springfield, Ohio; prescription costs; price gouging; climate-energy policy; tariffs; middle-class taxes; small-business incentives; or anything else closely related to our safety or financial well-being.

I do understand, though, that he has voted (or not voted) in line with former President Donald Trump's wishes, including support for extreme positions.

Now, Stauber has, with apparent reluctance, agreed to appear on a debate platform with a news outlet that's been friendly to him over his legislative tenure. Let's hope the moderators ask him about these issues.
