Prep football roundup: Rainer leads Prosser over Grandview, back to .500 record

GRANDVIEW — After an 0-2 start, the Prosser Mustangs are right back in the race for the CWAC crown.

Quarterback Jacob Rainer threw a touchdown and rushed for two more as the Mustangs beat host Grandview 29-13 on Friday night for a second consecutive league win.

Rainer completed 20 of 27 passes for 204 yards, connecting with Landen Bailey for a six-yard score. A week after a monster game against East Valley , Aaron Gonzalez was Rainer's top target again, catching seven passes for 99 yards. Brody Buxton opened the scoring for the Mustangs with a 55-yard punt return for a score.

Grandview's Nate Montes de Oca caught a pair of touchdowns from Nathanylle Rodriguez. Montes de Oca finished with 90 total yards on eight carries and three catches.

Prosser (2-2 CWAC, 2-2 overall) is back to .500 after a rocky start and will host Quincy next Friday before a showdown with 1A power Royal. Grandview (0-4, 0-4) will travel to Ellensburg.

At Toppenish, quarterback Jason Sanchez's second quarter touchdown run was all the offense the Wildcats needed to remain unbeaten on the season and beat the Bulldogs for the first time since 1986. Ellensburg has held its last three opponents to under 10 points.

At White Swan, the Warriors won their second straight game with a shutout of the Cougars. James Gibson rushed 20 times for 110 yards to lead White Swan (0-1, 0-4), which will play at Kittitas next Friday.

At Highland, Kai Hanrahan had two passing touchdowns, a rushing touchdown and returned an interception for a touchdown to lead the Lightning.

Alejandro Vazquez had a receiving touchdown and Eduardo Urrutia added a rushing touchdown for the Scotties.

At Yakama Tribal, the Eagles lost their league opener and fell to 0-3 on the season. Yakama Tribal will host Sunnyside Christian next Friday.

At Eisenhower, an early touchdown put the Timberwolves up, and the Cadets were unable muster a comeback.

Eisenhower quarterback Moses Spurrier completed 7 of 19 passes for 75 yards, and led the Cadets (1-3) into field-goal range on their opening drive. But a 32-yard field goal attempt was wide and the hosts would come no closer to scoring the rest of the way.

Eisenhower will return to CBBN play next Friday when it hosts Moses Lake.
