Prep glance: LPS volleyball tournament, and more Friday highlights

A pair of high school volleyball teams at the top of their classes got off to a good start at the Lincoln Public Schools Classic on Friday in Lincoln.

In Pool B, Class B No. 2 Norris went 3-0. The Titans started by defeating Lincoln Southeast 25-13, 25-18. Norris then dispatched Omaha Marian, 25-17, 25-20, and Lincoln East 25-10, 25-20.

Norris' Anna Jelinek had 24 kills in the first two matches to lead the Titans.

On the other side of the gym at Lincoln Southeast, Class A No. 2 Papillion-La Vista South went 3-0, earning wins Lincoln Pius X, Papillion-La Vista and Gretna.

At Lincoln Southwest, the Class A No. 7 Silver Hawks, Lincoln North Star and No. 4 Grand Island were all 2-0 heading into Friday night's late matches.

BOYS TENNIS

Lincoln East 9, Lincoln Southeast 0: The match of the day came at No. 1 singles where East's Hunter Nelson defeated Owen Brown 9-7.
