LA BARGE, Wyo. — Today, Nov. 6, the Bridger-Teton National Forest (BTNF) plans to conduct a prescribed burn near La Barge, Wyoming.

According to a BTNF Facebook post, smoke will likely be visible in this area, which sits south of Daniel Junction and Big Piney. There is no need to report the smoke.

The La Barge Vegetation Restoration Project is 52,573 acres targeted to promote biological diversity in tree and plant species. BTNF writes that the area is currently dominated by homogeneous (the same kind of) older conifer and sagebrush.

"The resulting increase in diversity of plant species will provide abundant forage and habitat for wildlife as well as minimizing the risk of future severe wildfires," said BTNF Public Affairs Officer Mary Cernicek in the Facebook post.

Approximately 2,200 acres have been identified for future prescribed fire operations as well, which will be conducted over multiple years.
