DANVILLE, Ill. (WCIA) — During Tuesday night's city council meeting, Danville narrowly voted not to approve a four-day work week for city hall.

Last week, WCIA reported that on Oct. 8, the Public Works Committee heard a proposal to change its hours of operation from Monday-Friday from 8 a.m. until 4:30 p.m. to Monday-Thursday from 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.

At the Public Works Committee meeting, only two members from the Public Works Committee of the city council voted in favor of the proposal, while five members voted against it. It went to city council without a recommendation to pass the proposal.

During the Oct. 15 council meeting, Mayor Rickey Williams, Jr. said keeping the current hours or changing to a four-day work week were the only viable options that union members who work for the City would accept.

Ward 4 Alderman, Tricia Teague most in-person payments to the City are made on Friday's.

"All of the data seems to support that we should be open on Friday's," Teague said.

But, Williams said only 3.4% of total payments made to the City are done in-person.

After council discission had finished, the proposal was voted on, and narrowly struck down.

Members Mike Puhr, Eve Ludwig, Robert Williams, Darren York, Ed Butler and Bob Iverson voted in favor of the proposal. Rick Strebing, Sharon Pickering, Tricia Teague, Jon Cooper, Carolyn Wands, James Poshard and Mike O'Kane voted against the proposal.

The four-day work week proposal failed 7-6.
