Public input meeting scheduled for Sunset Drive Interchange project
The North Dakota Department of Transportation is scheduled to hold a public input meeting this week ahead of proposed changes to the Sunset Drive Interchange in Mandan.
The meeting is scheduled for 6-8 p.m. Thursday in the Mandan Middle School cafeteria. Representatives from the state Department of Transportation and project developer Mead & Hunt will be at the meeting to respond to public questions and concerns about the project. The meeting will have an open house format, with a formal presentation at 6:30 p.m.
The meeting comes as the state DOT seeks to expand the Interstate 94 interchange at Sunset Drive, a key north-south corridor on the west side of Mandan. The project also includes plans to reconstruct the intersections of Old Red Trail and Boundary Street Northwest at Sunset Drive.
Last year, the Mandan City Commission voted to recommend a single-point urban interchange with lights at intersections over several other options. Alternative designs included a partial cloverleaf interchange, a diverging diamond interchange and a diamond interchange with roundabouts at intersections. The current design is a diamond interchange.
The project is separate from a Bismarck-Mandan Metropolitan Planning Organization feasibility study on upgrading the parts of Sunset Drive north and south of the interchange. That project wrapped up in 2023.
Those unable to attend the meeting can submit written comments to Chris Miller by Nov. 22. Information on how to submit written comments, along with other information about the project, can be found at .
