QUANAH, Texas (KAUZ) - Last week Quanah High School was the recipient of the National Blue Ribbon Program Award.

The National Blue Ribbon Schools Program was founded in 1982 and recognizes public and private elementary, middle and high schools where students perform at high levels or where significant improvements are made in students' academic achievement.

Only 300 schools in the country were chosen, with 30 of them being in Texas. Quanah was one of eight high schools in Texas to receive the honor.

The principal of the high school, Scott Mills, said they will keep expectations high despite not being eligible to win the award for another five years and commends the culture they've built.

"We are just going to keep expectations high, and let the chips fall where they may. We are just going to keep pushing to do the best we can for are kids. We are going to keep using those programs and we are going to keep expectations [high they] are everything and that's what we are going to do. Our culture is all about expectations here at QHS, and so we are going to keep maintaining that culture. It's a great culture of high morale and high expectations. Those are two things [that] really combine to make us really good," Mills said.

District Superintendent Tom Johnson said the community is fired up about the school receiving the honor.

"They really seem fired up about it, and we are just so excited for the kids. That gives the kids such a boost to think well we've really done something here," Johnson said

Superintendent Johnson said he is proud of the school, the faculty and students, and is thankful to be a part of the success.
