The Co Tyrone brothers, whose sister Aliyah competes in the women's junior TT tomorrow, both made their mark with Adam temporarily sitting in the hot-seats for the podium places while Darren, who was among the final riders to set off, was fourth when he crossed the line.

Spain's Ivan Romeo (Movistar) claimed the gold medal in a time of 36:42.70 across the 29.9km course to finish 32 seconds head of Sweden's Jakob Soderqvist, a 21-year-old who rides for Lidl-Trek Future Racing. The older Rafferty ultimately earned the family bragging rights by finishing in sixth place, 1:01.52 off the winner's time, while his younger brother was 10th, 1:17.67 behind Romeo.

Switzerland's Jan Christen took the bronze medal in front of home crowds, 40 seconds down. Darren was racing for the first time since completing his first Grand Tour earlier this month for his EF Education-EasyPost team while Adam, who only turns 19 next month, was the youngest rider inside the top 10.

Earlier in the men's junior TT, Seth Dunwoody and Conor Murphy also both finished in the top 10. Dunwoody finished in fifth place after a fabulous ride in a field of 66 riders, registering a time of 28:32.37 on the 24.9km route. Murphy stopped the clock in 28:50.73 to finish 10th as French rider Paul Seixas took the gold.

"I managed to squeeze everything out of my legs today. Although not as much as I had expected but I can still be proud of this result. It's my first major time trial championship and I hope to be at many more up fighting for medals," said Dunwoody.
