A private burial was held for Sammy Befu, 99-year-old, Calif.-born Nisei, at Green Hills Memorial Park. He is predeceased by his daughter, Leslie (Alan) Yamada; and is survived by his loving wife, Hideko Befu; son, George (Anne Mettee) Befu; grandson, Trevor (Danielle) Mettee-Befu; great-grandson, Nathan Mettee-Befu; great-granddaughter, Paige Mettee-Befu; also survived by other relatives. www.kubotamortuary.com (213) 749-1449

Established in 1903, the Rafu Shimpo has survived two world wars, a depression, and the forced evacuation of our entire community. It is now the longest running Japanese American daily newspaper in the United States.
