Rain showers expected in the Triad on Monday

As recovery efforts continue in western North Carolina, additional rainfall can be cause for concern.

While we are expecting showers today and tomorrow, rainfall amounts will not make conditions more dire there. We will have dry weather mid-week and another dry period this weekend.

Today, a stationary front is cutting through the Piedmont and the coastal plain, acting as a focusing point for showers to develop and move to the northeast.

An upper-level low is also providing some lift, enhancing the chance of showers in the western end of the state.

The chance of rain today is 60%, and most showers will be developing after lunchtime.

Total rainfall for today and tonight will be 1/4′′ or less across the Piedmont, and between 1/4′′ and 1/3′′ in the mountains.

Highs today will be in the upper-70s.

Lows tonight will be in the mid-60s under cloudy skies. There is a 40% chance of showers, especially early in the evening.

Tomorrow, showers will be fewer and farther between. The chance of rain is 40% and highs will be in the mid-70s.

A cold front is approaching from the west on Wednesday, and we may actually have drier air settling into the Piedmont before the front arrives.

For now, we're expecting mostly sunny skies Wednesday, then partly cloudy skies Thursday. On both days, highs will be near 80°.

A second cold front will cause showers to pop back up Friday, then the front will pass through the Piedmont early Saturday morning. The chance of rain on Friday is 30%, and highs will be near 80°.

The weekend will be beautiful as a result, with ample sunshine and highs in the mid- to upper-70s. The humidity will go way down, making it feel like autumn.
