Ravens outlast Chargers on ‘Sunday Night Football’ to win 6 of last 7 games: How Baltimore’s defense shined

V.Rodriguez3 months ago

The Baltimore Ravens defense forced four turnovers against the Los Angeles Chargers en route to a 20-10 victory on “Sunday Night Football.” Here’s what you need to know:

  • The Ravens defense limited the Chargers offense to 279 yards of offense. Los Angeles had three fumbles lost and quarterback Justin Herbert threw an interception to end the first half.
  • Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson threw 18-of-32 passing for 177 yards, a touchdown and rushed for 39 yards – becoming the fastest QB in NFL history to notch 5,000 rushing yards.
  • Baltimore rookie wide receiver Zay Flowers caught his second career touchdown and rushed for his first, sealing the victory for his team.
  • Baltimore improves to 9-3, winning six of its last seven games. Los Angeles falls to 4-7.
  • Ravens defense shines

The Ravens defense bailed out its offense Sunday. Baltimore forced three first-half turnovers and the Ravens only managed a field goal off those takeaways. Jadeveon Clowney then got a strip sack deep in Baltimore territory in the fourth quarter. The offense responded by going three-and-out.

The Ravens offense had a chance to put it away long before it got to this point. Flowers ultimately called game with the 37-yard touchdown run. Still, the credit for the victory belongs to the defense. At 9-3 and heading into their bye week, Baltimore is in a good spot. It leads the AFC North and is also atop the conference. — Jeff Zrebiec, Ravens beat writer

    Baltimore’s road ahead

However, the Ravens still don’t have much margin of error against arguably the toughest remaining schedule in the league.

Of their remaining five games, three are against division winners ( Jacksonville Jaguars , San Francisco 49ers and Miami Dolphins ), one is against an improving Los Angeles Rams team and the other is against a Pittsburgh Steelers team that has beaten Baltimore in six of the past seven matchups. So the Ravens need to regroup during the bye and steady themselves for the stretch run. — Zrebiec
