Ray Hadley's multimillion retirement property investment revealed as talkback host hangs up the mic

Talkback titan Ray Hadley shocked listeners this week when he announced he was retiring after forty years on the air.

It appears the popular 2GB presenter will soon be headed for the Central Coast of NSW once he hangs up his microphone for good in December.

The 70-year-old media veteran and his wife, Sophie, currently reside in Sydney 's northwest.

However, last year, the pair sold off a flashy Gold Coast apartment for $2.05 million in July after splashing out on a 'getaway' pad at Brisbane Waters in June.

Built on the Bouddi Peninsula, 112kms from Sydney, the elegant multi-level home features five bedrooms and offers amazing water views.

Situated at Pretty Beach, it also boasts an second-storey entertainment deck, and beautiful modern kitchen.

According to PropTrack, the top sale in the neighbourhood peaked at $3.7million in the last year.

Meanwhile, the Daily Telegraph reported on Friday that Hadley was expected to be on the air for another three years after making the Central Coast purchase.

But now there is speculation that the outspoken former taxi driver has been quietly planning his Central Coast move for the last three years.

The radio star flogged off his massive semi-rural estate in Dural for an undisclosed sum after listing it with a $7.7million to $8million price guide, the publication reported in June 2021.

Sprawling over 2.19 hectares, the amazing property boasts two dwellings, including a five-bedroom homestead that Hadley built in 2006.

Other highlights include two swimming pools and a tennis court.

It comes after Hadley this week announced his shock retirement from Nine's flagship radio station after a dominating four decades behind the microphone.

The award-winning 2GB host broke the unexpected news to listeners live on-air just after 9.30 on Thursday morning, saying he wanted to spend more time with his wife Sophie, children and grandchildren.

He will remain on-air until the end of this year's radio ratings season on December 13 before hanging up his microphone for good - though a successor is yet to be announced as he only confirmed the decision with Nine's executives last week.

The industry legend rose from humble beginnings driving a taxi is Sydney - where he once gave a lift to then-2UE news director Mark Collier - to become one of the biggest names in Australian broadcasting.

Hadley has ruled the airwaves in the fiercely competitive mornings timeslot for the Sydney-based station since his debut in April 2002 after more than two decades at rival outlet 2UE, where he had started his radio career as a casual traffic reporter.

The tireless broadcaster, who celebrated his 70th birthday just six weeks ago, is also known to sports fans across the country for his unbeaten reign calling rugby league State of Origin matches and the NRL Grand Final.

Hadley's record-breaking career has seen him recognised with 35 Australian Commercial Radio Awards for his work in news, current affairs and sport - more than any other broadcaster - and he was inducted into the ACRA Hall of Fame in 2017.

Additionally, he was awarded a Medal of the Order of Australia in 2002 for his services to rugby league and in recognition of his charity work along with an addition to the Sydney Cricket Ground's Media Hall of Honour in 2021.

Hadley wed his third wife Sophie, his former secretary, in 2021.

'I achieved far more than I have thought I would,' he told listeners on Thursday.

He explained his children Dan, Laura, Emma and Sarah, made 'many sacrifices over the years' as he pursued his career and it was time to return the favour.

'Seven years ago, I had no grandchildren and now I have seven, and I want to spend more time in the company of Ava, Noah, Ella, Lola, Tommy, Remi and Millar along with their parents,' he said.

He confirmed that his last day on air will December 13.
