LUBBOCK, Texas (KCBD) - The American Red Cross Hero Care Center in Lawton, Oklahoma, continues its vital work every day, helping active duty service members and their families in times of emergency.

The center assists with verifying family emergencies, arranging transportations for service members to return home, and providing financial support.

Last year, the Red Cross delivered more than 14,700 services to military families in the North Texas region.

"Family is one of the most important things, and not knowing what's happening during, you know, what could be a traumatic time for someone's family while you're stationed overseas is difficult," Doyle Rader, Red Cross Regional Communication Manager, said. "You know, our military community faces so many challenges, you know, in their daily lives, and so we want to help ease that burden."

The Red Cross does not authorize emergency leave but plays a crucial role in verifying emergencies, allowing commanders to make informed decisions.

All services are free, supported by donations from the public.
