Rep. Matt Gaetz Of Florida Calls For Senate To Reject Plan To Bury Pentagon UFO Files
Rep. Matt Gaetz on Wednesday challenged an effort by Senate Democrats to block access to Pentagon records about unidentified flying objects.
The Fort Walton Beach Republican said during a congressional hearing that the Defense Department needs to release its files about “Unidentified Anomalous Phenomena,” or UAPs.
A bill passed by the House would require that within six months of it becoming law.
Yet Democratic Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer seeks to create a special commission to review such files and determine how they should be released — a process, Gaetz said, that could take up to 25 years.

He also called on the Senate to reject Schumer’s plan.
During a House committee hearing, Gaetz recalled being briefed a few months ago on a possible UAP incident by leaders at Eglin Air Force Base in Pensacola.
Gaetz said he was initially rebuffed in seeing all the evidence the Air Force had gathered, including talking to a member of the flight crew who captured images of the incident. Eventually, the Air Force relented.
“The image was of something I am not able to attach to any human capability either from the United States or any of our adversaries,” said Gaetz.
Gaetz recounted that the flight crew’s image showed a group of four aircraft moving in a diamond-shaped formation. He noted that the flight crew said when they approached the formation, their radar went down, as did other electronic equipment.
On X (formerly Twitter) after the hearing Gaetz posted, “Americans have long been kept in the dark by the U.S. government about Unidentified Anomalous Phenomena (UAP). The time for transparency is now. We don’t want the information in small bits and pieces over 25 years.”

The National Defense Authorization Act, the Pentagon’s primary spending bill, which has already passed the House, includes language offered by Tennessee Republican Rep. Tim Burchett that mandates the Defense Department to declassify the military’s knowledge on UAPs within 180 days of the law being enacted.
“This proposal is currently the most effective way to expose what the DoD is hiding,” Gaetz wrote.
Instead, he added, Schumer seeks to establish a commission “akin to the decades-long JFK investigation.”
“Under the commission, it could take up to 25 years to declassify documents and records related to UAPs. This is unacceptable,” said Gaetz. “The Senate now faces a choice between adopting Rep. Burchett’s amendment or Sen. Schumer’s prolonged approach.”
