Retired LPS teacher, administrator earns second term on SCC board
Southeast Community College Board member Arlyn Uhrmacher of Lincoln was elected to a second four-year term representing southeast Lincoln and Lancaster County in Tuesday's election.
The retired public school teacher and administrator captured 56.3% of the votes in District 5 compared to 43.7% for his opponent Denny Vaggalis, an attorney from Lincoln.
The nonpartisan race was the only competitive seat among the six on this year's ballot. Incumbents in five other races were also reelected to the 11-member board, which is responsible for governing SCC's three campuses in Lincoln, Beatrice and Milford.
SCC serves a 15-county area and about 10,500 students are enrolled at SCC this fall in vocational training, academic transfer programs or dual-credit courses.
Other board members reelected Tuesday:
District 1: Chuck Byers of McCool Junction, who represents southwest Lancaster County and seven other counties: Gage, Jefferson, Saline, Seward, York, Fillmore and Thayer.
District 2: Kathy Boellstorff of Johnson, who represents sections of southeast and northwest Lancaster County, as well as seven other counties in the north and east portions of the area: Pawnee, Richardson, Johnson, Nemaha, Otoe, Cass and Saunders.
District 3: James Sherwood of Lincoln, who represents northeast Lincoln and portions of Lancaster County.
District 4: Kristin Yates of Lincoln, who represents parts of downtown and west Lincoln.
At-large: Neal Stenberg of Lincoln.
