REVEALED- Sophia Smith Shares Bizarre Origins of "Triple Espresso" With Trinity Rodman & Mallory Swanson

S.Wright37 min ago
Think of all the famous trios in soccer. 'MSN' included Lionel Messi, Luis Suarez and Neymar of Barcelona. They shocked the world with their interplay and led the Spanish giants to a treble. Likewise, Roberto Firmino, Mohamed Salah, and Sadio Mane of Liverpool entertain the Kop end with their stunning pressing and finishing. Well, there is a new trio in the form of 'Triple Espresso' from the USWNT. And oh boy, Sophia Smith, Trinity Rodman, and Mallory Swanson earned that name!

They dazzled at the Paris Olympics, leading the USWNT line upfront by scoring goals and creating for others. With the help of their forward line, they won the Olympic gold medal, as you all know. Just one question comes to our minds. Where did this unique coffee name come from?

In an interview with CBS Sports, Sophia Smith detailed the exact organic origins of the moniker. She detailed how family members and pre-match media rounds provided the catalyst to come up with the name. As the teams usually get off social media before a tournament, Trinity Rodman's sister came up with the suggestion.

It stuck with them since then!

Sophia Smith, Trinity Rodman, Mallory Swanson- Meet the Triple Espressos! Sophia Smith stated, "I don't know if she heard it somewhere or if she came up with it, we have to figure that out, but Trin said it to me, and I was like, 'wait, I kind of like that.' And she's like, 'I know me too.' It just felt fitting for us. I feel like we're all a lot of energy. We're all feisty on the field, but we can be sweet."

Yes, as the name suggests, they play with fantastic energy. Leading the team from the front, the trio is Emma Hayes' first line of defense with their irresistible pressing off the ball. And yes, they do like coffee; you know!

She continued with a bit of sugar to go with it by stating, "It's a little bit of everything, and also it's fitting that we all love coffee and drink like four coffees a day, especially in camp. I don't know, it just felt right for us."

But they had concerns regarding Mal who would go on to like the name. Well, she didn't have any choice. Sophia Smith ended, "I don't know if Mal was on board to begin with, but she has no choice now because it's what it is, but I feel like it's just fitting in and just kind of describes us really well."

They sure did a fine job. The trio combined to score 10 goals out of the 12 for USWNT at the Olympics. Mallory Swanson scored the goal that made the difference by taking her tally to 4 in the tournament. These three are here to stay and we expect more fireworks when they take the pitch for the 2027 Women's World Cup.

Something's surely brewin, isn't it?
