Tottenham defender Micky van de Ven has recorded the fastest speed in the Premier League this season, but new data has thrown up some surprises in the early part of the campaign.

Van de Ven has established his reputation as one of Premier League's fastest stars since joining Tottenham from Wolfsburg at the start of last season.

After topping the fastest speed rankings in the 2023-24 campaign, the Dutch defender is again top of the pile seven matches into the new season.

Van de Ven has already shown his pace by setting up counter attacking goal with solo runs against Everton and Man United .

In new data released by the BBC and Opta, the 23-year-old has been clocked as the fastest player in the top flight by reaching a top speed of 37.1km/h.

The Tottenham star is closely followed by Wolves winger Carlos Forbs and Nottingham Forest 's Anthony Elanga , who have achieved 36.6 and 35.9km/h respectively.

Man City's goal machine Erling Haaland is ranked fourth on 35.7km/h, clocking the same speed as another Tottenham player in Timo Werner.

Haaland, who has scored 10 goals in seven matches this season, was also found to have walked the most in the top flight having covered 28.2km.

His team-mate Kyle Walker has regularly been at the top of the Premier League's fastest player rankings throughout his career.

The Man City captain has recorded the competition's second fastest ever speed of 37.31km/h – only beaten by Van de Ven clocking 37.38km/h last season.

However, the 34-year-old only ranks 80th in the top flight after seven matches of the new season.

Gabriel Martinelli and Alejandro Garnacho lead the way for Arsenal and Man United respectively, having been clocked at 35.6 and 35.5km/h respectively.

New Chelsea signing Pedro Neto leads the Blues with the winger having achieved a top speed of 35.4km/h.

Another surprise result sees Mohamed Salah miss out on being Liverpool's fastest player, with Trent Alexander-Arnold leading the way instead.

Alexander-Arnold has achieved a top speed of 34.7km/h.
